An early 19th century whaleman's walking cane, finely wrought from the jawbone of a sperm whale.
The lower section carved in a wrythen pattern, the mid section eight sharp concave flutes and the top third a cluster reeded. The top two sections separated by cubes inlaid with squares and dots of pewter; the lower and mid section by an octagonal reserve with an inlaid dot to each face. The handle octagonal, carved from the tooth of a sperm whale and engraved with an owner's initials, meeting with the octagonally finished jawbone and being separated by a band of baleen and pewter.
