Monumental Ebonised English 19thC Johnstone, Jupe & Co. Mahogany Glazed Bookcase Cabinet
Johnstone and Robert Jupe were master cabinetmakers of the William IV and early Victorian eras. They were renowned for using exceptionally high-quality timbers (like mahogany and pollard oak) and producing elite-tier, exhibition-grade furniture
History of the Makers - Johnstone, Jupe & Co. New Bond Street, London
The Partnership: The firm was established by John Johnstone and Robert Jupe at 67 New Bond Street, London, operating exclusively between 1835 and 1840.
The Split: Because the partnership lasted only five years before Robert Jupe left the business, any authenticated piece bearing the stamped or engraved signature of Johnstone, Jupe & Co. is exceptionally rare.
Later Successors: After the split, John Johnstone later partnered with John Jeanes, transforming the firm into Johnstone & Jeanes (1842–1880), which continued to serve aristocratic clients and the British Royal Collection
