A charming 19th Century French wall mirror retaining its original or earlier heavily foxed mercury plate, within an attractive carved and giltwood frame.


The rectangular frame is richly decorated with scrolling foliate ornament and displays a beautifully time worn surface with layers of worn gilding and gesso revealing a warm, aged patina. The beautiful mirror plate has developed extensive foxing and mottling over time, creating a wonderfully atmospheric appearance that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors. The reverse retains its original timber backboards.


An evocative decorative piece with excellent texture and character.
