Large 20th Century French reclining nude oil on canvas painting by Fernand Jean Barbier.

Beautifully atmospheric and painted in the lingering academic salon tradition of the inter-war period. Depicting a female figure stretched across softly draped linens, the composition possesses a subtle Art Deco sensibility, with elegantly modelled forms, muted tonalities and a characteristic 1930s coiffure. The restrained palette and softly handled surface lend the work a refined and quietly sensual quality, characteristic of French decorative painting of the period. Signed lower right 'F. Barbier'.

Presented in its original carved Montparnasse frame, entirely consistent with the period of the painting and complementing the composition’s sophisticated continental aesthetic. An evocative and highly decorative large-scale picture with timeless interior appeal. Minor historic patch repair verso.
