Item Description
Interesting Collection of Carved Wood Wig Makers' Heads from France , each mounted on a later turned maplewood 'spindle' stand.
The 'mannequin' heads were originally made in France circa 1890-1920 to be used for creating wigs and vary in height between 16-18 inches tall. on their stands . All the heads are In good though used basic condition with a variety of markings, such as pin marks on the crowns where the wigs were assembled- and various other small imperfections from their age and usage. The maplewood stands have been more recently created by a wood turner to hold the heads so they can be displayed as interesting sculptural objects.
.Of the 8 Heads shown in the Primary photograph , top row centre and lower row extreme right are now sold, all others are available.
(Another photo shows 4 of the heads holding my hats on the bakers rack in my kitchen in front of my collection of neolithic arrowheads)
