Item Details

A handsome Regency mahogany pedestal sideboard, dating from the early 19th century, with attractive figured mahogany, good colour and particularly pleasing proportions. The raised scroll-form back is centred by a carved shell motif, above a long central frieze drawer flanked by two upper pedestal compartments. The drawer and compartment fronts display attractive figured mahogany, with brass ring handles. Each pedestal incorporates a lower panelled cupboard door, framed by finely turned spiral columns. The sideboard is raised on square tapering legs terminating in castors. The two upper pedestal compartments were originally drawers but have subsequently been converted into cupboards, providing useful additional storage. At 162 cm wide and just 47 cm deep and with the ability to dismantle, the sideboard has relatively compact proportions for a Regency pedestal example, making it suitable for a dining room, hallway or other living space with constrained access. The sideboard dismantles into sections for easier transport and installation.
A particularly appealing example, combining richly figured mahogany, restrained Regency ornament and practical storage.

CONDITION
The sideboard is in good antique condition overall, with marks, knocks, scratches, minor losses and general signs of age and use. The two upper pedestal drawers have been converted into cupboards, while the lower cupboards have some later internal shelving. These alterations provide practical storage while retaining the original outward appearance of the piece. There are minor losses and wear to the mahogany surfaces and mouldings, consistent with age and use. The piece presents well overall, retaining an attractive colour and figure. The sideboard dismantles for transport.

As an antique or vintage piece, signs of age and use should be expected and are part of its character. The photographs form an important part of the description and should be viewed alongside the written condition report.
