A particularly attractive mid 18th century Welsh oak cwpwrdd deuddarn, or two part cupboard, combining great character, practical storage and beautiful original colour and patina. Of classic Georgian form, the upper section features a pair of panelled cupboard doors beneath a crisp moulded cornice, enhanced by lovely turned droppers that add elegance and visual interest. Below, the high waisted base offers two drawers over a further two door cupboard, providing generous and versatile storage.
Both upper and lower doors are fitted with raised and fielded panels, secured with simple traditional wooden turn catches. The drawers and doors retain their turned wooden knobs, in keeping with the understated country aesthetic. The sides are flat oak panels within a moulded frame, with pinned construction typical of mid 18th century provincial work.
The cupboard boasts an excellent, rich warm colour and a well developed patina, the result of over 250 years of careful use. Minor old wear, entirely commensurate with age, only adds to its charm. It has been gently cleaned and waxed in our workshops, preserving the original surfaces while enhancing the depth and lustre of the timber.
Retaining its authentic character and offering superb storage, this Georgian Welsh cwpwrdd deuddarn is not only a highly decorative piece, but also a fine testament to the enduring quality and beauty of 18th century craftsmanship, ideal for a country house kitchen, hallway, dining room or any interior seeking genuine period warmth and presence.
