A superb early 19th-century George IV period mahogany and ebony line inlaid inverted breakfront sideboard of excellent quality, constructed throughout from well chosen timbers and veneers and retaining a rich, original colour and patina.
The sophisticated inverted breakfront top is simply and elegantly outlined with ebony stringing. Below is a central ebony inlaid frieze drawer fitted with brass lion mask handles, over a further flame veneered drawer with integrated pull, both beautifully edged with ebony and veneered in striking figured mahogany.
These central drawers are framed by out stepped spiral turned pilasters, which transition into ring turned and reeded supports, terminating in finely turned feet. To the left is a full height cupboard door; to the right, a full height fitted cellarette drawer, ideal for bottle storage. These end sections are again flanked by columned legs, giving the piece a balanced and architectural presence. Standing on six elegantly tapered, reeded mahogany legs, this sideboard displays an outstanding depth of colour and a warm, glowing patina that has developed over two centuries. Its generous proportions, refined styling, and superior timber quality strongly suggest it was a special commission.
Retaining its original keys and working locks and remaining in largely untouched condition, this sideboard is sturdy, practical, and ready for use. It is both a testament to exceptional late Georgian craftsmanship and a striking focal point for any interior seeking the authentic English country house look.
