Item Details

A charming blonde terracotta figure of a young robed girl, holding a small dog by English maker James Marriott Blashfield (1811-1882), the base with a good clear stamp 'J.M. Blashfield, Paddington', dating this statue to the 1850s, prior to his move to Lincolnshire.

With a naturally weathered patina, it is in remarkably good original condition with no visible damage or restoration, which for this age is rare.

The young girl with shoulder length curled hair that tumbles down her back, is wearing a loose dress and stands with bare feet giving a lovely relaxed pose and style. She holds the tiny dog, perhaps a puppy, to her chest with both arms clutching him tenderly and protectively.

The detailing to her hair, face, feet  and that of her dog's features is superb, crisp and clear, it really does purvey a sense of realism and charm.

She is not life size, but is certainly tall enough at 70cm overall to give a great sense of presence, especially when standing upon a pedestal to give more height.

You can place her outdoors, perhaps in a niche created by a hedge or in a wall, or use her to adorn your interior.
