A Georgian brass inkstand or standish
The cast brass stand with rococo side carrying handles, central wax pot with taperstick lid flanked by a pair of glass ink pots with brass screw on lids and two pen trays. Being cast brass this inkstand is heavy, a true sign of quality and is complete with the original taperstick, the taper or candle would have been used to melt the wax to seal the letter, usually with the imprinted seal of the letter writer.
