Cast in brass with square stepped bases to seamed tapered columns to urn form candle holders. The bases with push candle ejectors to the centre. Marked to the underside of the base with a hammer and anvil and the name J.Miller and the word ‘cool’.
English, or Scottish circa 1760-1800
These candlesticks are illustrated in Roderick Butler’s book, "Domestic brass and other base metalware, c1600-c1900" p63. 'Although a typically English late 18th century design, neither J. Miller nor Cool have been found. Several Millers working as copper smiths, founders, and tin-plate workers, are recorded in Glasgow and Paisley in Scotland in the early 19th century.'
