An Aesthetic Movement oak centre table
Rectangular top with moulded edge over a plain frieze to the side, the frieze with a single draw with a pair of turned oak knobs and ash linings (a preference of Scottish cabinet makers). Stands upon ring turned and tapered legs united by side stretchers to tapered feet. Bears maker’s mark Morison & Co., Edinburgh.

Matthew Morison established a business of upholsterers and house furnishers in Ayr in the early 19th century, a family business continued by his sons, who were succeed by an employee William Reid who took over the firm and renamed the company Morison & Co in 1862. As cabinet makers then based in the heard of Edinburgh they worked on major projects at this time in the Aesthetic and Arts & Crafts taste, including commissions for Robert Lorimer.
