Item Details

This athénienne pedestal table features a circular top of breccia marble in red, grey and cream tones, set within a gilt bronze banding. Three curved uprights surmounted by ram's heads holding mobile rings support the top, converging toward a central stem with a gadrooned ring. The tripod base, adorned with a chased rosette and palmettes, ends in hoof feet — a direct citation of the antique repertoire.

This Neoclassical vocabulary — rams, hooves, athénienne — refers to the productions of Maison Charles, the famous Parisian house of art bronze; the style designation invites here a cautious stylistic attribution, the work of the 1970s remaining of fine casting and chasing quality.

Condition report: Good overall condition. Bronze with even gilding patinated by use, sound marble with contrasting veining. A sculptural pedestal table of elegant height, perfect for bearing a lamp, a bust or a bouquet in an entrance or a living room.
