Item Details

This octagonal wall mirror features a multi-faceted architectural structure. The assembly scheme revolves around a large central mirror plate, bordered by an angled frame consisting of eight peripheral mirror sections. The various glass panels are set and secured by a gilded brass frame, finely detailed with a raised continuous garland motif. This angled arrangement of the borders multiplies the reflections and adds depth and volume to the object.

This type of multi-faceted construction, a direct legacy of 18th and 19th-century Venetian mirror making, experienced a significant reinterpretation in the mid-20th century. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Hollywood Regency movement and revived neoclassicism brought these brass-lined geometric mirrors back into fashion. They became staple pieces for interior decorators seeking to introduce luminosity and geometric rigor into affluent interiors.

Condition report: Good overall condition. The brass frame shows natural oxidation and an even patina of use. The mirror silvering is well-preserved, with possible minor oxidation spots inherent to the age of the glass. With its strict lines, this mirror will serve as a strong architectural element above a fireplace, a console table, or a sideboard.
