Bruno Gecchelin (born 1939, Milan) stands among the most consistently original voices of Italian industrial design in the second half of the twentieth century. Trained at the Politecnico di Milano, Gecchelin developed a practice rooted in the rationalist tradition of Italian design — rigorous in its thinking about materials, production processes, and the practical demands of the object, yet never sacrificing the aesthetic dimension that distinguishes design from mere engineering. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he created landmark products for Bieffeplast, iGuzzini, Leucos, and Gruppo Skipper, earning numerous design prizes and the enduring respect of his peers. The “Pollux” lamp, produced by Gruppo Skipper — the Milanese design and distribution company that collaborated with the leading designers of its generation — represents Gecchelin at his most characteristic. The grey enamel body and matte black rubber details embody the Modernist vocabulary of the period: an austere palette that asserts the primacy of form over decoration, a material language that speaks of precision and purpose, and a composition that is at once visually resolved and functionally assured. Standing at a height of 194 cm, the lamp is a commanding presence; its narrow footprint — 36.5 cm by 32 cm — ensures that it occupies space with the economy that great design demands. The lamp bears its original signature, “Pollux Gruppo Skipper Originale”, confirming its authenticity. A piece of certified Italian design heritage, this “Pollux” floor lamp by Bruno Gecchelin is an object of both artistic and historical importance. For the serious collector of Italian Modernist design, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire a signed, original example of one of the period's most eloquent designers at the height of his powers.
