A wonderfully unusual and highly decorative large vintage wicker elephant, designed as a plant stand, occasional side table or sculptural decorative object.


Entirely wrapped in woven wicker/rattan, the elephant has been beautifully modelled with an impressive amount of detail. The large fan-shaped ears, long curved trunk, tusks, substantial legs and braided tail give the piece a remarkably expressive and sculptural appearance.


The elephant stands on its own rectangular woven base, while the body supports a large raised woven platform at the top, ideal for displaying a plant, vase, sculpture or decorative object. It could also work beautifully as an unconventional side table or pedestal.


Particularly charming are the different weaving techniques used throughout the piece. Tightly woven sections define the body and legs, while braided wicker detailing outlines the body, tail and upper section. The oversized ears create a dramatic silhouette from every angle.


The deep natural brown colour and aged surface give the wicker a warm, authentic vintage character. At approximately 85 cm high, this is a substantial decorative piece rather than a small tabletop ornament and has genuine presence in an interior.


A fantastic statement piece for a bohemian, colonial, eclectic, Mediterranean or maximalist interior, and particularly attractive in a conservatory, orangery, entrance hall, living room or boutique interior.


It could equally be used purely as a sculptural decorative elephant.

CONDITION
Good vintage condition with an attractive aged patina.
