Item Details

Striking vintage Italian Brutalist travertine coffee table by Up & Up, dating from the 1970s/1980s.

A highly architectural design composed of two separate geometric travertine elements, each constructed entirely from natural Italian travertine. The two pieces can be arranged together to create an approximately 100 × 100 cm square coffee table, or repositioned to create different sculptural compositions.

Each individual element has an angular triangular form with an impressive diagonal length of approximately 140 cm. The strong geometric construction, intersecting planes and substantial slabs of stone give the table a distinctly architectural and Brutalist character.

The natural travertine is particularly attractive, displaying warm ivory, cream and beige tones with beautiful linear veining and the characteristic open pores and irregularities inherent to genuine travertine. The continuation of the stone across the vertical surfaces enhances the monolithic appearance of the design.

An especially interesting feature is the versatility of the two-piece construction. The tables can be positioned closely together as one large statement coffee table, slightly separated to emphasize their sculptural geometry, or used individually.

The underside bears a “MADE IN ITALY” marking.

A sophisticated example of late 20th-century Italian stone furniture, combining minimalist geometry with the raw natural beauty of travertine. Particularly suited to Brutalist, Italian Modern, Minimalist, Mid-Century Modern and contemporary interiors.
