https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/c2collectionThis French Empire chest of drawers carries the weight of history in every gilded detail. Dating back to the early 1800's, made in walnut with exceptional detailing throughout.
Four generous drawers glide between the ebonised pilasters on either side, crowned by gilt bronze mounts bearing classical faces - a signature motif of the Empire period. Composed, slightly stern, draped in the manner of antiquity, they have watched over this piece for two hundred years. These are not just decorations but characters, remnants of an era that believed furniture should move you.
The original circular drawer pulls sit flush and unpretentious against all that drama. The keyhole escutcheons on the three lower drawers are a reminder that this piece once held things worth locking away. It rests on turned bun feet - solid yet graceful.
The contrast between the dark ebonised columns, the warm walnut grain and the cold gleam of the gilt metalwork is what makes this chest visually distinctive.
With the right stone top, it converts beautifully into a bathroom vanity unit - the kind of piece that makes a bathroom feel like a room rather than a utility. In a bedroom it works as extra storage - wide enough to be genuinely useful, handsome enough to need nothing around it. Slotted into an alcove or set against a living room wall, it fills dead space with real purpose - a surface for lamps, objects and books, with four deep drawers that finally give you somewhere to put everything else. It has the scale and the presence to work in any setting without being overpowering.
