Item Description
An extremely high quality late Victorian Ebonised and parcel gilt upholstered stool, by Lamb of Manchester. C.1870
Recovered in a two tone pink and cream geometric fabric, with fine mechanism providing a pivoting lid above a tasselled rim.
Raised on stunning turned and fluted tapering legs with Cope Collinson brass castors, very much in the Christopher Dresser taste, he was reported to have designed for Lamb and Ogdens of Manchester around C.1867.
James Lamb born in 1816 turned the family company, Lamb of Manchester based on John Dalton Street into a prestigious one, winning medals at the 1862 London Exhibition and again at the 1867 Paris Exhibition.
