Large Victorian Marine Oil Painting of the Harland & Wolff Clipper Slieve Roe Attributed to Lai Fong
Description
A striking late Victorian marine oil on canvas depicting the celebrated British iron clipper Slieve Roe under full sail off the coast of Calcutta (Kolkata), India. Attributed to the respected Chinese marine painter Lai Fong (Fl. 1870–1910), this impressive work combines historical interest with exceptional decorative appeal.
The ship is portrayed in starboard profile cutting through rolling seas beneath an expansive blue-grey sky, with every sail set and colourful signal flags adding movement and vibrancy. The finely painted rigging, elegant hull and luminous sky demonstrate the artist's accomplished handling of light, atmosphere and maritime detail.

Its generous scale and balanced composition make it an outstanding statement piece for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
