After James Pollard (1792–1867)
A large and highly decorative mid-19th century oil on canvas depicting King George III returning from the hunt before Windsor Castle, accompanied by mounted attendants, members of the royal hunting party, and a lively pack of hounds.
Executed after a celebrated composition associated with the renowned sporting artist James Pollard (1792–1867), the painting beautifully captures the grandeur of royal sporting life against one of Britain's most recognisable architectural landmarks.
The composition is dominated by an expansive view of Windsor Castle, with the Round Tower and St George's Chapel clearly visible beyond the surrounding landscape. In the foreground, King George III is shown on horseback returning from the hunt, creating a lively narrative scene filled with movement, character and period charm.
Rich earth tones, soft greens and atmospheric blue-grey skies combine to create a warm and inviting palette ideally suited to traditional interiors. The painting offers excellent scale and decorative presence, making it a striking focal point for a country house, library, study, drawing room, hotel, clubhouse or hospitality setting.
Professionally relined and presented in a substantial Victorian gilt frame with original inner slip, the work possesses wonderful wall presence and classic English country house appeal.

Condition
Good decorative condition for its age. The canvas has been professionally relined and mounted onto a later stretcher for stability. The surface displays age-related craquelure throughout, consistent with a nineteenth-century oil painting, together with minor paint losses near the outer edges. Colours remain strong and the painting displays exceptionally well.
The substantial Victorian gilt frame shows expected age-related wear, repairs, cracking and minor losses commensurate with age. The frame has been sympathetically refreshed and presents attractively. Overall, the painting is ready for immediate display.
A superb large-scale decorative oil painting combining royal history, sporting tradition, equestrian interest and the timeless grandeur of Windsor Castle, offering exceptional visual impact and authentic nineteenth-century character.
