A wonderful Italianate tiered garden fountain in cast iron, late 20th century and inspired by Renaissance villa fountains of Northern Italy.


Constructed in three graduated tiers with octagonal basins, the fountain is surmounted by a stylised pineapple finial — a longstanding symbol of wealth, status and abundance within European garden ornament. The turned baluster supports and gadrooned rims draw upon the architectural language of Italian Renaissance and later Baroque fountains, particularly those found within formal courtyard gardens and formal water gardens.


Finished in a weathered cream paint with naturally oxidised surface tones, the fountain possesses an appearance that sits beautifully within both traditional and Mediterranean-inspired settings. The softened patina and traces of surface giving character, particularly when surrounded by abundant planting.


When in use, water gently cascades through the graduated tiers into the octagonal basin below, bringing movement and atmosphere to a garden setting.


Raised on a substantial lower pedestal base measuring 50 cm square, the fountain has an impressive sense of scale and presence.


An elegant decorative fountain equally suited to a courtyard, orangery, walled garden or formal planting scheme.
