Superb Arts & Crafts reclining armchair in mahogany after a celebrated design by Philip Webb for William Morris c.1910. High backrest, slightly shaped and adjustable to three positions held in place with a brass rail at the rear. Dramatic sloping arms with scroll carved terminals raised on ten closely spaced spindles to each side. Note how the seat angle follows the line of the arm, formed as it is by the side rails which continue as a curve to become the back legs. Front stiles forming as a single piece the curving arm supports and the front legs. Raised on good quality brass castors. Retaining the original black leather covered cushions for the backrest and seat. Wear to the cushions and replacement hinges. Very good condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
