https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/collinge-antiquesVery good example of the classic 19th.c. campaign chest of drawers c.1860. Designed to travel with an officer on long military campaigns, it is constructed in two sections which fit together to make a chest of two short and three long drawers. The top, drawer fronts and sides are in solid walnut (an unusual choice of timber for campaign furniture) strengthened with brass bindings and corners to protect it from the rigours of travel. Note how the handles are designed to fold flush with the drawer fronts to prevent them from being broken in transit. Likewise the turned feet are removable (or adjustable) with threaded metal fittings. Two old patched repairs to the top where knots in the timber have been removed - these are probably original to the construction of the piece. Plus a repaired split toward the rear right hand corner, which has been reinforced from the underside. Otherwise excellent original colour and condition. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.
