Stone bust of a French Air Force commander c.1945. Very well carved from a single block of white stone. Shoulder length bust of a moustachioed gentleman in uniform with a fine set of ribbons, braided shoulder epaulettes and the wartime French Airforce wings and star insignia. Unfortunately the identity of the subject is not known but it must be someone whose deeds were of considerable significance as worn on ribbon around neck is the medal of the Légion d’honneur, France’s highest order of merit. In very good condition, with just a few minor chips from the bottom front edge.- Period: c.1945
