Item Description
English 1880.
Intricately carved from oak with original navy leather seat.
The Gothic styling is very much reminiscent of E. W. Pugin.
The chairs height indicates they were made so the person(s) seated on them were at a higher level than others in their company and therefore highlighted their importance.
The decorative Olde English lettering spells KESTEUAN; which in modern English translates to KESTEVAN a council district in Lincolnshire.
The chairs are therefore believed to have come from Lincoln cathedral & you can see that the chairs carvings are very much reflective of the cathedrals interior.
A very rare find.
Price is for the pair.
