A good oak x-frame tavern table. The quarter-sawn top with a naively scribed game to one end, having lines and crudely numbered spaces - perhaps a homemade version of shove ha’penny or similar. The tall X shaped trestle supports, united by a single stretcher and with canted corner details. Lovely warm and rich colour throughout. An evocative piece. English, late 19th century.
