Item Description
An incredible large antique elm block. It's from Guernsey and is believed to be used to make butter or cheese, the top surface - especially within the central depression - is sumptuously smooth, from years of being used to roll and work the dairy produce. Due to its size, it was probably used to make cheese or butter on a farm or large estate kitchen. Made from a single piece of elm, the rings of the tree can still be made out at either end. Difficult to age precisely - I would say mid 19th century, but quite possibly earlier.
