https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/doe-and-hopeThe ziegler carpet of good size at almost ten feet long, having an antique wash with a truffle ground and bold designs of stylised semi-floral palmettes in a variety of shimmering golds, the whole enclosed by a triple border in a light powder gold, and surviving from the first decade of the 21st century.
The piece is in good overall condition with only light wear. There is one area of loss to one end of the tufted fringe, being about an inch sized half oval piece lacking, as photographed.
Ziegler, from the district of Sultanabad, look rather like large Fereghans and Bidjars, but of a much softer quality and texture. They were made for the European market from 1870 with the term 'Ziegler' referring to the Anglo-Swiss company Ziegler & Co. They were producing exclusive Persian carpets in their own workshops in the Sultanabad region of Western Persia between 1870 and 1920. Afghan Zieglers have proved to be one of the most popular hand woven rugs of recent times. They are woven mainly by Afghan weavers and are sold out of markets in Northern Pakistan.
Easily capable of blending seamlessly with antique and contemporary settings.
