https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/doe-and-hopeThe Georgian revival country house wing armchairs, upholstered in historic faded scarlet red velvet with lower apron tasselling, each raised on short walnut cabriole legs with acanthus leaf detailing to pad feet, the wholes in the Queen Anne style, the carcasses with strongly defined shaped wing backs with pronounced sculptured scrolled wings and arm rests, each surviving from Edwardian period England.
The condition of the chairs is overall fair to good with no structural flaws to report. They are comfortable and stable with the upholstery showing authentic wear to the arms and head rests, but crucially with no holes or tears as photographed. Some of the tasselling is a little loose which can be remedied. They are delightful in that they are un-meddled with.
The original purpose of wing-backed armchairs was understood to be to prevent drafts in old houses from reaching ones upper body or to protect the delicate skin of gentrified ladies from the heat of a roaring fire.
Everything that is the glory of the English country house.
