Item Description
The set of six dance photography images showing various poses by the same dancer, most likely Mary Wigman School, the vintage gelatin silver prints by an unknown photographer being wonderfully expressive and very much of the period being the late twenties to early thirties.
Each is mounted in upper edge in mat with some mirroring to the edges, otherwise they all in good condition and have been recently framed.
Mary Wigman, original name Marie Wiegmann, (born November 13, 1886, Hanover, Germany—died September 18, 1973, West Berlin), German dancer, a pioneer of the modern expressive dance as developed in central Europe. Mary Wigman is counted among the great radicals of early twentieth-century dance with Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis, Martha Graham and Doris Humphrey. These women were artistic revolutionaries, moving away from the stringent conventions and prettiness of the ballet to found new truths, re-discover organic principles and carve out a way for dance as an art of its time.
A beautifully monochrome and unique set with a heavy sense of atmosphere and movement jumping from frames.
