A very substantial Japanese bronze box dating to the Meiji period (Early 20th Century) of remarkable craftsmanship. This exceptionally cast piece depicts a dragon clutching a flaming pearl (symbolising wisdom) amongst ocean waves to its lid in high relief, with further ocean detail to the sides. This is a very heavy piece with a lovely patina and a rare level of detail.


The interior of the box is lined with sandalwood and purple velvet as pictured, with a small split to one corner as pictured, which does not impact the piece’s quality.
