Item Details

A solid oak Arts & Crafts reading table bookstand, designed by Leonard Wyburd for Liberty of London, the well-figured top set over an open upper shelf above a lower shelf fitted with a short rear retaining gallery, flanked by moorish panels and raised on turned legs with original castors.


Wyburd’s integration of Moorish turned lattice galleries was a hallmark of Liberty’s 1890s Studio ranges, while William Birch’s exposed peg joinery provided the structural rigour required for portable furniture. Its shallow rectangular footprint makes it exceptionally versatile, resting neatly against a hall or library wall or serving as a mobile companion alongside a reading armchair.


Very good antique condition, with light surface wear and a rich, natural patination to the oak consistent with age. Structurally sound, smooth-rolling and ready to place in the home.
