https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/foundersAn Edwardian satinwood candle stand of octagonal form, the top decorated with a hand-painted central musical medallion framed by floral border, set over a deep frieze with painted ribbon-bound floral swags, all raised on four slender square-tapered legs painted with trailing husk drops, united by a finely shaped X-form stretcher centered by a turned finial.
A fine example of the turn-of-the-century revival of 18th-century painted satinwood, the piece illustrates how Edwardian makers reinterpreted once-specialised Georgian forms into delicate decorative accents. Free from utilitarian requirements, its tall, narrow silhouette was designed to introduce light timber tones and Neo-Classical elegance into formal Edwardian drawing rooms.
Very good antique condition, showing fine original hand-painted pigments and light surface wear alongside an honest, stable hairline shrinkage line to the top and small knocks to the moulded edges. Structurally sound, stable and ready to place.
English, circa 1905.
