https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/foundersA late Victorian pair of oak torchères, the well-figured square tops trimmed with beaded mouldings, set over robust, deeply carved solid barley twist columns and raised on substantial stepped plinth bases with moulded corner bracket feet.
Conceived during the late nineteenth-century revival of the old English country house style, the pedestals provide a stable platform for the display of fine sculpture, bronzes or large ceramics. Their commanding silhouette offers an authoritative architectural presence when flanking a formal fireplace or positioned within a grand entrance hall.
Both stands are in very good antique condition, with some surface wear consistent with age, very minor historic losses to the beaded moulding, a little natural warping to the tops and a slight variance in colour between the pair. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place.
English, circa 1890.
