https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/foundersA late 19th century ebonised hardwood occasional table, the circular top profusely carved with a central quatrefoil enclosing starburst rosettes and radiating fan palmettes within concentric geometric borders, set over a carved and turned baluster column raised on a tripod base of downswept legs carved with rosette roundels and terminating in scrolled feet.
The exceptional density of the hand-carved relief across both the top and base elevates this piece into an object of striking sculptural presence, reflecting the height of late Victorian colonial workshop craftsmanship. With every surface decorated it makes the perfect freestanding accent placed beside an armchair or ideal as a lamp table where the light will accentuate the stunning carving.
Very good antique condition, with honest, attractive wear to the ebonised finish and a tight, stable historic shrinkage hairline to the solid top consistent with age. Structurally sound throughout, standing firm on its tripod base, clean and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1890.
