Item Details

A late 19th-century oak lectern in the Gothic style, the sloping reading surface with an integrated book-rest ledge set above an open shelf to the reverse, the front with ornately carved decoration centering the date of 1893, all set over an architectural Gothic arch raised on turned pillars united by a low stretcher and raised on shaped shoe feet.


This handsome reading stand offers an elegant display piece well-suited to a grand entrance hall, library or drawing-room recess, providing a striking platform for displaying a substantial volume. In a commercial environment, the shallow footprint and commanding architectural presence make it an equally impressive hostess or greeting stand.


Very good antique condition with light surface wear consistent with age. Some evidence of historic woodworm, long inactive. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place.
