https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/foundersA William IV rosewood reading and music stand, also functioning beautifully as a handsome occasional table. The richly figured rectangular top features a detachable book rest, with the angle easily adjusted via the original brass quadrant mechanism, set on a telescopic, height adjustable iron stem with a brass locking collar, all above a turned baluster column raised on a swept tripod base terminating in scroll feet and pendant drop finial.
The piece transitions smoothly and effortlessly from an angled music stand or reading lectern to a flat occasional table. Ingenious dual-purpose furniture enjoyed immense popularity during the late Regency and William IV periods, prized by wealthy patrons for its mechanical novelty, versatility and functional elegance.
Very good antique condition, displaying a deep natural patina and minor entirely stable edge-moulding movement consistent with age. Structurally all solid, mechanically sound and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1830.
