Item Details

Antique Sarouk carpets are among the most luxurious Persian rugs, renowned for their exceptional style, quality, and understated elegance. These carpets were particularly favored in the West during the 19th century and are crafted in the same region of western Persia as Ziegler Sultanabad and Mahal carpets. What sets Sarouk carpets apart however is their sophistication, with a finer weave and lustrous wool.

This early example from the 1910s has a remarkably fine weave, giving it a sharp, precise drawing. It features rich dyes and an innovative composition in line with the exceptional craftsmanship of Sarouk weavings from this period. This carpet, however, features a creative and uniquely open, well-balanced design, in contrast with the more traditional central medallion. The light terracotta field beautifully complements the soft, gracefully aged vegetable-dyed colors throughout, surrounded by a simple blue border of generous proportions. It has been woven in high-grade wool, possibly Merino.

This circa 1910 Sarouk Carpet is in very good to excellent condition, with its borders and fringes preserved on all sides and with good pile throughout, remarkable for a piece of this age.

A sophisticated and highly individual example, this carpet has a quiet formality that would complement a wide range of interiors – rare in this smaller furnishing size.
