Item Description
Antique Tabriz Carpet
3.50 x 2.60 m
The city of Tabriz in the Northwest region of Persia has been a celebrated centre of rug weaving since the 14th century; as the heir to such a long-standing tradition, perhaps no other rug weaving region in Persia can claim such a wide array of designs or pattern types.
This handsome early 20th Century Tabriz piece showcases an impressive grand large-scale drawing of large palmettes, borrowed from earlier weavings of the 18th century. The light ivory colour field serves to complement the wide array of colours in its design, with tones ranging from carnelian red to cornflower blue, all in natural vegetable dyes and framed by a wide, muted tan border.
This carpet has a thin pile but is in very good practical condition for everyday use, retaining its original borders on all four sides.
A stylish example with the decorative appeal to suit a variety of interiors.
