Elegant c. 1930 Kashan Carpet, signed

4.16 x 3.20 m

The city of Kashan, among the best-known and highly-ranked Persian rug-weaving centers, first rose to prominence in the 16th Century, under the Safavid Dynasty. These workshops earned a reputation for producing many of the most highly sought-after rugs of the Classical period and continued their work into the early 20th Century.

This Kashan carpet is a high-end workshop weaving of the 1930s, bearing the signature of one of the masterweavers of its era - it has a creative, well-balanced drawing and is framed by a tasteful border. The clarity of its drawing is attributed to the remarkable quality of its weave. The rare array of vegetable-dyed colours including: ivory, pale blue and grey are particularly pleasing, and have aged nicely over time.  These attributes are uncommon in this type of weaving.

Although this rug dates to the 1930’s, it has a very modern feel to it which is a sign of a truly talented artist.

This fine Kashan carpet is in excellent condition, still retaining its original plain borders and fringes on all sides.

A timeless example with the versatility to compliment a variety of interior styles.
