Item Details

Antique Bidjar carpets from north west Persia are famed amongst Persian tribal village rugs for the quality of their tight precise weaves and often dazzling interaction of their designs and colours. Bidjar is situated in a corridor between the borders of Persia, Anatolia and the Caucasus so has a weaving tradition that encompasses a varied mix of cultural influences. This can be seen in the broad range of styles and patterns in Bidjar carpets which makes them unique and challenging in trying to distinguish them from rugs from other regions.  They are diverse and versatile pieces that would complement classic and contemporary settings alike.

This handsome Bidjar Runner has pleasant design characteristics of earlier Azerbaijan rugs of the 18th century with its 'pomegranate' design in the central field symbolising prosperity and fertility. The attractive muted red field complements the monochrome drawing nicely and it's main border which frames the drawing beautifully, is generous in relation to its narrow format.

In very good practical condition for everyday use.

A handsome example with a good variety of vegetable dyed colours to complement a wide variety of spaces.
