A rare and unusual labelled mahogany desk by ‘James Mein of Kelso,’ the tall back with 3 shelves, the top has a ¾ shaped gallery, each tier supported on turned balustrades with a solid mahogany polished back, the writing surface with side shaped gallery with scrolling, the front with one short drawer flanked by a pair of deeper drawers, the right-hand drawer with the trade, the table rests on four classic ‘Mein of Kelso’ legs with foliate carved caps and bases, turned, fluted and tapering, with a brass cup and castors beneath.
James Mein of Kelso had amongst his clients, The Duke of Roxburgh, and supplied furniture to the Duke for his home at Floors Castle Kelso.
