A mahogany twin pilar dining table plus center section and leaf, almost certainly by ‘Gillows of Lancaster,’ the two D end tops in the finest mahogany with ribbed fore-edge, resting on a classic vase shaped stem, issuing four ribbed saber legs terminating on a ribbed brass toe, with brass castors, the center section with mahogany top and polished frieze on all sides with a pull-out mechanism for accommodating the extra leaf if required, resting on four classic Gillows fluted tapering legs with a ribbed cup and castors beneath, the leaves are held in place by brass clips and keepers.
Provenance: From Monreith House, The Historical seat of the clan Maxwell. The Maxwell’s fought with ‘Robert the Bruce’ at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, and were ennobled in 1440.
