A large oak-framed hooded Orkney chair, known in the local dialect as a ‘Heided Stul’ of traditional form with oat straw tied with marram grass, the hooded section with the facings finished in twine, the solid oak quarter-sawn seat, and classic Orkney arms supported on simple uprights with visible round head brass screws on the side, the front with a full-size oak-framed drawer (for Bible or Whisky!) with a large knob turn handle, the peg joints of the legs visibly showing, resting on slightly splayed tapering legs at the back and front.
