Circa 1860. A stylish and unusual pair of mid-Victorian carved oak hall chairs, the profusely carved backs in the form of a cartouche with multiple
carved images, including a crest with a hand holding a sword, animal heads with a Latin inscription “Dei dono sum quod sum” which translates as “By the
grace of God, I am what I am’, the solid shaped seats with simple fore edge and rail that follows the form of the chairs, back legs are square and
slightly out swept, the front with cabriole legs with C scrolls on the top and foliate carving on the knee, including harebells, finishing on a ball and
claw foot.
