https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/kontrastAn oak chest of two drawers, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, probably French.
The rectangular top has a stepped moulded edge above two deep, full-width drawers, each fitted with a pair of decorative metal cup handles. The front uprights have recessed detailing and raised geometric blocks, with panelled sides and a plinth base completing the design.
The quarter-sawn oak has a varied brown surface, with visible grain and wear from use. The drawers are dovetailed, with softwood linings, and provide generous storage within a footprint of less than a metre wide.
Sturdy throughout, with both drawers opening and closing smoothly.
The unusually deep drawers and practical working height give the chest a resemblance to haberdashery and shop furniture. A useful piece for storing textiles, craft materials or household linen, with a broad surface above.
