Item Details

An early 20th century English armchair, circa 1900–1920, closely following the proportions and design of the Howard and Sons Ingleby model.

Of particularly neat proportions, the chair has a broad upholstered back with gently rounded upper corners, low rolled arms and a loose feather and down seat cushion. It is traditionally upholstered with a sprung seat and raised on square tapered hardwood legs terminating in substantial brass castors.

The existing printed furnishing fabric, whilst in poor condition has a particularly good Persian-inspired medallion design in mustard, brown and green. It is now heavily worn and torn in areas, particularly around the arms and front rail, and the chair is offered for recovering. The traditional upholstery beneath remains in good order, so a recover rather than a complete reupholstery should be sufficient. The sprung seat and feather and down cushion are also in good order.

The frame is firm and sturdy.
