A large late 20th century Titchfield armchair by Howard Chairs Ltd.


The Titchfield is distinguished by its particularly generous proportions, with a broad rounded back, low sweeping arms and an exceptionally deep seat at 90cm. This example stands on square tapering legs with brass castors.


The chair retains its original green and cream H and S monogrammed ticking fabric, while the loose seat cushion is marked Titchfield. Both the seat and back are sprung, and the substantial loose cushion appears to be feather filled, possibly with some down, although the exact filling composition has not been confirmed.


The frame is sturdy and firm with no old repairs noted. The existing upholstery has been partly stripped and shows wear and marking to the remaining coverings. The chair is offered for re-covering.


A particularly large and comfortable example of the Titchfield model, retaining its original Howard ticking and model-marked cushion.
