Item Details

An incredibly rare and decorative mid-19th century German Tramp Art mirror, adorned with removable crest and stunning fretwork detailing throughout. This is an important example of Northern European Tramp / Folk Art, Dating to circa 1870

It is extremely rare to find a mirror of such scale and detail, and also to find this wonderfully detailed fretwork combined with different types of wood used throughout to create a piece of such beauty and presence.

The removable arced crest is set upon an iron strap that slots into the back of the frame. The mirror plate is lightly foxed throughout.

Small losses to some areas of the fretwork and beading shown in the photos. Marked on the back in hand painted strokes Fur Helga (For Helga) so we believe this piece was made by someone specifically for Helga, possibly as a gift.
